Arnhold Faculty Fellowship in
Cognitive Approaches to Literary
Studies
The UC Santa Barbara
English Department invites
applications for the Arnhold Faculty
Fellowship. This fellowship has a
term of one year. The fellowship
offers recent recipients of the
Ph.D. (awarded between January 1,
2007, and June 30, 2010) a unique
opportunity to develop their
research and teaching interests in
association with the UCSB English
Department’s Literature & Mind
concentration, which organizes
research activities and offers a
curricular specialization (see
http://mind.english.ucsb.edu/).
The fellowship is designed to
attract a scholar not currently in a
tenure track position whose approach
to literary studies would complement
the balance of approaches in the
Literature & Mind concentration by
being centrally engaged with recent
developments in neuro/cognitive
science, neuro/cognitive
linguistics, and/or history of mind.
We welcome candidates who have an
interest in conjunctions and
disjunctions between the sciences
and the humanities.
The Fellow will assist in the
development of research and
curricular programs related to
Literature & Mind and teach four
courses, one of which would be a
graduate research colloquium related
to the Fellow's research project.
The position requires full-time
residence at UCSB during the 2010-11
academic year. Compensation includes
an annual salary of $51,500 plus a
research fund of $3,000.
More information about the English
Department, its Literature & Mind
specialization, and its other
centers and specializations may be
found at
http://english.ucsb.edu.
Applicants will be evaluated on the
basis of their application
materials. We will be interviewing
for this fellowship at the MLA
convention. Receipt of all
applications will be acknowledged.
The University of California is an
Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action
employer. The department is
especially interested in candidates
who can contribute to the diversity
and excellence of the academic
community through research, teaching
and service.
